Living Tree Orchid Essences
Rising to the Call of Beauty - Paph. Lady Isabel
This essence is about aligning and identifying with beauty. As modern societies have distanced themselves from natural beauty and inner beauty, dissonance, distortion and self-degradation have followed. This has influenced us in ways that distract us from the simple beauty in nature and in ourselves. What are the innate properties of beauty? Proportion, integrity, harmony and respect for the forces and mathematical dimensions found in sacred geometry. When beauty is a guide, the results of our actions anturally and harmoniously follow Universal Principles. Beauty's strength will banish evil and ugliness from her presence. Helpful in relieving shoulder tension at the end of a working day.

I am sometimes asked why I choose to have a black background for most of the photos I take of the orchids. Digging through my photo archives, I found that I had shot Rising to the Call of Beauty the day after the essence was made, in two sequences. I cannot recall just where I shot the ones with the grey backdrop, but I think these were done outside, judging by the slight blur in the orchids in both photos.
I use a very dark black cloth which I drape behind the plants, to achieve a rich black. The black backdrop is usually slightly tweaked in Photoshop. I prefer the black backdrop as it doesn't compete visually with the orchid, but rather helps the colours and forms of the orchid to stand out more fully. But by viewing both types of background in these images, you can see for yourself (I hope) why I prefer the black backdrop generally speaking.
